Ederer letter: Don’t Fail Idaho

I read with great interest Greeley’s thoughtful commentary in the Feb. 24 issue of the Idaho Statesman about the “Don’t Fail Idaho” campaign, and I celebrate her staunch support of the public school system.

My granddaughter attends the Treasure Valley Math and Science School for advanced science and mathematics classes while taking her other classes at the Heritage Middle School in Meridian. I have been very impressed by the teachers at these schools, and I congratulate them all for their dedication.

As a newcomer to Idaho and as a retired university professor I am very interested in the quality of public education because it is vital for Idaho’s future as it grows and as technology advances. The J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation and other members of the industrial community have a unique opportunity to give public education an important boost. So let us unite and focus on the task ahead, with the support of Gov. Butch Otter, the Legislature and citizenry, and work toward the achievement of an outstanding public school system.

David Ederer, Meridian
