McKenna letter: virtual academy
As an educator, I believe strongly in choice and nurturing your children the way you see best fit. I discovered the Idaho Virtual Academy in the early summer of 2002, when the Internet was still a new concept. I just had my first daughter and decided I wanted to stay home with her. This new and exciting opportunity allowed me to be a mom with my children at home, but at the same time bring the gift of teaching I possess to the virtual setting.
The best thing about working with the Idaho Virtual Academy is the quality relationships I develop with parents and students. I have the privilege teaching students from kindergarten through fifth grade, creating a bond with students that outweighs a traditional setting. I love my interaction with my students online.
I have been teaching for almost 18 years — 14 in the virtual setting. I hold a Master of Science degree in education leadership and am highly educated in gifted and talented. I continue to dream to be a better teacher and leader in education. My students are the future leaders of tomorrow, and I hope that I can bring a sense of excitement and encouragement to their education.
