I disagree with the Supreme Court’s decision to put the Clean Power Plan on hold until legal challenges are resolved (Idaho Statesman, Feb. 9). The Clean Power Plan will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and will help the United States follow the Paris climate agreement that was approved by 196 countries in December. Two-thirds of Americans and a majority of Republicans in the U.S. support the Paris climate agreement. A recent poll by Zions Bank’s Idaho Politics Weekly showed that 61 percent of Idahoans think that the U.S. should accept and support the agreement. Most Idahoans understand that we need to reduce our emissions of greenhouse gases, which cause climate change. We need policies like the Clean Power Plan and a revenue-neutral fee on carbon to decrease emissions and to comply with the Paris climate agreement.
