Wright letter: LaVoy Finicum shooting

Just a comment on the LaVoy Finicum shooting by Oregon State Police and FBI. When Geronimo was being taken from Arizona to Florida for imprisonment and exile, he was interviewed by a reporter who asked if he had anything to say to the American people. He most prophetically opined, “One day the white Americans will know their federal government as the Chiricahua and Mescalero Apache know it. On that day they, too, will know they are not free.”

Russell Means, leader and a founder of AIM, also admonished his fellow tribal members in Senate testimony in 1989, about abuses of the federal agencies, not to continue to fall into the government’s traps. It appears the Pai’ute leaders in Oregon, who sided with the government against the Occupation, did. As Means said in his Senate testimony almost every tribal government is bought and paid for by their federal masters. He always called the United States “The Great Reservation.”

Keep The Great Res just comfortable enough and most inhabitants become lowing cattle and bleating sheep. The “Res. Jumpers” become the hunted and the heroes. Gee, maybe that’s why 3,000 people showed up to LaVoy’s funeral.
