Hayes letter: Abortion

After watching the Feb. 6 Republican debate, I realized I had assumed Hillary Clinton was pro-choice merely because she is a woman. While I’m on the subject, I have this to say about abortion. A woman does have a right to control what happens to her body, just as a man does. Without it, no one has security. But my right ends where your nose begins. Terminating a pregnancy is wrong. Abortion is very delicate as a political issue, though. Therefore, to put undue burdens on a woman — to try to make her wrong — is itself wrong. The issue has too many wrenches in its cogs. It’s not a matter of civil rights butting heads, however contrary that may sound, it’s a matter of meeting people where they are.
