Westervelt letter: Wolf killings

Like many thinking Idahoans, I am angry and sad that wolves are being gunned down from the air in a misguided attempt to increase elk numbers. I’m sorry Idaho Fish and Game must rely on hunting, fishing and trapping fees to fund their budget, because I believe this short-sighted arrangement by the state of Idaho makes them act in unscientific and cowardly ways. I would gladly have some of my tax dollars used to fund Fish and Game if it meant more scientific and humane management by this wildlife agency. The wolves deserve better. If they weren’t continually harassed and killed, and their packs fractured, we would see a more realistic vision of their capability to survive within their rightful place in the ecosystem.
