Ward letter: Trump cartoon
A political cartoon recently appeared on these pages. It depicted Donald Trump as the satanic serpent in the Garden of Eden. The artist, Kevin Siers, has Trump leaning down from a tree limb and telling Adam and Eve, “I’ll protect Christianity.”
Bible fact: Adam and Eve lived in the Old Testament and had never heard of Christianity. The term “Christian” wasn’t mentioned until thousands of years later. It was first recorded by Luke in the book of Acts in chapter 11:3.
Kevin’s choice of Trump as that serpent is misplaced. Bible fact: “Now the serpent was more ‘subtle’ (emphasis mine) than any beast of the field ....” (Gen. 3:3) C’mon Kevin, Trump is subtle? He didn’t get to the front of the GOP candidate pack by being subtle.
In the cartoon, Adam is portrayed as a naked and scrawny looking character with a long skinny neck and wearing a goofy grin. Bible fact: “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” (Gen. 2:26)
