In response to the letter to the editor by Tex Beauchamp on Jan. 26, where he stated “A new CNN poll shows 67 percent of Americans, including 57 percent of gun owners, support President Obama’s action to reduce gun violence.” He failed to reveal that these Americans were also skeptical, with 6 in 10 saying that these measures will not be effective in reducing the numbers of gun-related deaths. Most (53 percent) say that they oppose the way Obama made these changes.
He further stated that “Unfortunately, we can’t have an honest conversation about gun violence while the NRA/gun lobby controls most of our politicians.” I submit that we can’t have an honest conversation about gun violence if we are going to take polls out of context.
