I appreciate the efforts being made by the Legislature to provide funding for a primary care medical home for Idaho residents who are underinsured and do not qualify for Medicaid. However, the care will be limited, and funding for those needing hospitalization or specialty care will not be provided. It is unfortunate that the current state executives cannot see clear to accept the federal funds that would allow for Medicaid expansion in Idaho in order to provide the full spectrum of care needed for those uninsured or underinsured. The focus appears to be on politics as usual and not on the long-term health of Idaho residents.
