Welty letter: Environment

As I watch the snow coming down at 3 a.m., I think of what the human race is doing to each other and the environment. When I see a picture of an Idaho puma deformed, with teeth growing out of its forehead, and also hear of frogs deformed, I wonder about nature being out of balance. I sometimes wonder if the animals, creatures with wings and plants and trees are going to leave us soon. I hope not. How will humans survive without them? Some thoughts come to mind:

1. Don’t have kids unless you really want them.

2. Don’t put medicine and other drugs down the sink and in the toilet.

3. Walk outside, even at 3 a.m. or 4 a.m. and even if it’s raining or snowing.

4. Think of things you can do to keep in balance with yourself and the environment.

Thank you for your efforts.
