Dewey letter: Mike Simpson

The Times-New article, Jan. 5 West Views, praised Simpson for supporting the $1.1 trillion spending bill. It says:

“He’s actually governing. You know, that thing where our elected representatives work together.”

That would be well and good if Simpson was fulfilling his campaign pledge to support a “true pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) budget” and putting our fiscal house in order as a “first priority.” Voting for this irresponsible budget that will increase the deficit and give his voters little or nothing that was promised.

To praise Simpson for a vote that will increase our $18.8 trillion debt with much frivolous spending is comparable to the parent who caters to the spoiled kid who wants Dad and Mom to borrow money they cannot pay back so he can buy more video games, gadgets, toys and candy.

That is not good family government and the Republican betrayal on supporting this bloated spending does not produce good national government.

I do not agree with Donald Trump on all his issues, but at least he knows the value of a dollar and if we get half of what we want with President Trump that’ll be a lot better than the zero we are getting now.
