Paige letter: Thank you

Thank you to the American people for another successful holiday season. The U.S. Postal Service continues to make an operational profit, without using any taxpayer money, at an affordable rate. Our role is to serve the communities of America in the most positive way possible, accepting and delivering the mail, six days a week, sometimes seven, in almost any kind of weather.

We do more than just deliver the mail. We hold a food drive every second Saturday in May, we assist the elderly whenever possible, support the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in our spare time, help out in emergencies and most of all, try to make your day brighter by bringing the mail as soon as possible to you in the safest way we can.

Many postal employees, including letter carriers, are veterans who have traded their military uniforms for postal uniforms to serve their local communities in a different kind of way.

With your assistance, we can make the year 2016 even more successful by using the Internet, which many thought would be the downfall of the Postal Service, to create package growth in sales.

Thank you.

John Paige, president, Idaho State Association of Letter Carriers, Pocatello
