Mauer letter: Climate change

Help is needed; be it Heaven, the Lord or someone with intelligence. One of our state legislators suggests that we should, “Listen to Rush Limbaugh once in awhile. ... See what he thinks ....” This is in connection with the burning of fossil fuels causing climate change. It is frightening to learn from a recent article in the Idaho Statesman that we have elected officials making decisions on the future of Idaho based on the opinion and advice of Rush Limbaugh. This Rexburg Republican has been entrusted with the Chairmanship of the House Resources and Conservation Committee. He is also the Legislature’s “expert(?)” on water issues. Despite all the evidence and scientific consensus regarding climate change, a legislator is leading a critical committee by adhering to the divisive ranting of a conservative radio host who purports to be an authority and critic on all things. Granted the choices for the radio listener in Eastern Idaho are limited and the negative content of Limbaugh’s material appeals primarily to those who are in denial or less progressive, but it’s extremely onerous to speculate on what criteria the citizens of Idaho cast their ballot.
