Young letter: Gun ads

How delightful to open the Statesman the day after the San Bernardino massacre to find Cabela’s Christmas ad. Right up front was an upcoming sale featuring a DPMS “semiautomatic tactical rifle…. .223” caliber — same manufacturer and similar to one used by the Butchers of San Berdoo. We should applaud Cabela’s for its Christmas-y family values, selling the kind of weapon of choice for mass murderers (readily available “assault rifles” thanks to the NRA — and its pet Congress. Oh, yeah, it’s not an “assault” rifle ... its a “tactical” rifle. Pardon me).

Some readers will dislike that I point this out, Second Amendment and all, but I’ll bet Jesus is rolling over in his grave. Oh, wait, I forgot, he’s not there. Don’t worry, though, the Islamic State is hell-bent on bringing him back, right after the Prophet. Isn’t that also what many Christian conservatives want: the return of Christ? What better way to bring him back — assault rifles for Christmas?

And what could be more American — this so-called “Christian” country — than profiting off holiday sales of weapons that can devastate families in mere seconds? You want to meet God? Here, let us help. Will that be cash or charge? I recommend credit. No payments ‘til Armageddon.
