Downey letter: Holiday tipping
So another Thanksgiving has come and gone. Did you dine out? Did you take care of your server? Most did, some did not. If you can afford to dine out then you must expect to tip. Twenty percent is a holiday minimum. As a restaurant manager I am truly disgusted with the people of Idaho. I checked on you. Everything was great, you thanked us for being open, then leave $3 on a $45 check. If Grandpa is buying, you better make sure that he is tipping, too. These servers have given up their holiday to wait on you. They don’t get to spend Thanksgiving with their families. Working is mandatory. In my particular restaurant it is extremely busy Thanksgiving week. Some had worked doubles three days in a row. I, for one, would love to stay home and cook dinner for my family. Unfortunately I don’t have that choice in my profession.
And to the lady who screamed at the cashier that we ruined her Thanksgiving for opening the doors two minutes late, shame on you. You ruined your Thanksgiving. You have now become the butt of the joke, congratulations.
