Lodal letter: Refugees
The debate on whether or not to accept Syrian refugees is simultaneously fascinating and heartbreaking. After much listening and reading and thinking, I believe I might have a proposal to move the discussion forward. We know how terribly the murderous ISIS snotrags treat women. The caliphate is all about fascist men brutally and violently suppressing anyone and everyone they don’t like.
If there was ever a time to use profiling in a decision, this one on the refugees seems to be it. Why don’t we accept all the Syrian refugees except males between the ages of 12-50? I know there is a civil rights slippery slope here, but there are also a lot of Syrian kids and moms and senior citizens who are suffering and dying. I’d like to see the U.S. be part of the solution in finding safe landing spots for these individuals. How we deal with the combat-age men is a discussion we can continue to pursue independently while we open our doors to the women, children and seniors.
