Shell letter: Cooper Court

I do not know how many homeless there are in Boise. I do not know the current available facilities. I do not know if all the homeless would choose to live in such a facility. But the community needs to come up with a solution. Perhaps that would only be to designate an area of land where they could set up their tents. It appears some of these people do not want to go to a shelter. It upsets me when the police simply say “you cannot be here.” Are the people suppose to vanish into thin air? If it is a crime to be homeless, that is just wrong.

I think you need to interview some of the homeless people. Ask them what they want. Just an area to pitch their tents? Perhaps the area needs to have some kind of a roof over it to protect them from the weather. They all need a place to be that the community isn’t going to call the police to kick them out.

I believe the community would support a well-thought-out plan. I think a lot of homeless people still want their dignity and independence. We all need to work together and come up with a solution.
