Shaw letter: Freedom of speech

America, land of the free? No longer. Political correctness has done away with it. People are afraid to speak their mind anymore — it gets you kicked off teams and out of school, fired from your job, sued, thrown in jail, and even forced to apologize publicly. There’s always going to be someone who won’t like your opinion. Freedom of speech is a fundamental right of a free society. Political correctness is a subtle but big fat lie sold to Joe Q. Public, and gleefully enforced by the same. No “government intervention” is needed. The loss of free speech is just the beginning. Other rights have and will follow, through the efforts of a misguided and ignorant public. Wake up, America. Restore the right to free speech and kick political correctness back to where it came from — communism and socialism.
