Wilkie letter: Refugees
The comparisons in the Statesman this morning, Nov. 22, likening turning away of Muslim immigrants to the incarceration of the Japanese-Americans, and the rejecting of Jews in World War II, miss a salient point.
The Japanese and Jewish cultures encourage mutual respect and direct their efforts to education, enlightenment and excellence in word and character. Some of the Arab Islamic cultures do not. They respect only Islam, in various and some lethal ways. Their efforts are directed to furthering the spread of Islam, not to enlightenment.
Political correctness and a desire to be “nice” are leading us to “cultural suicide by kindness.” People who live in Islamicized communities see their lives and culture changed in intolerable ways.
The image of a dead child and crying women is far outweighed by pictures of angry young men demanding that Europe provide a better life for them with all Islamic consideration, while they make no concessions to Western culture, and in fact, scorn it. These are not your grandfather’s immigrants.
