Woods letter: Jack Yantis, not forgotten

Been a very long month for my cousin, Donna Yantis, trying to heal after a heart attack, losing Jack and operating a ranch.

We know they are still investigating. Why are two deputies getting paid leave? Is it taxpayers’ money? If the deputies are found innocent, then compensate them with back pay. If found guilty, are deputies going to pay back the income they received? Immediately after Nov. 1, did deputies have a drug/alcohol test and be evaluated?

Is Adams County compensating Donna 100 percent to pay a hired hand to replace Jack to do ranch work?

Jack, if shot in the arm, might have lived. At least Jack didn’t see the bull suffer for two hours.

Who pays Donna for the bull — the deputies or Adams County taxpayers that include Donna, relatives, friends and my son?

On open range, we hit a horse in 1964, north of New Meadows, went through the windshield, glass all over us and new baby son.

Thank God Donna has lots of family and friends to lean on.

Our brain explodes over this whole ordeal; hopefully, we get good, honest answers and not swept under the carpet.

We live a mile from the Adams County line, so we’re not taxpayers in that county.
