Jones letter: Council shooting

I am really struggling to understand the tragedy that occurred in Council Nov. 1. I just don’t seem to be able to get my head around the fact that a good man — rancher, father, husband and uncle is now dead — due to the fact that he was called by the Sheriff’s department to come take care of an injured bull on his property. Whatever the circumstances that led up to this fatal incident, and hopefully we will get some answers on this question, there is no reasonable explanation for this death. I know that there are many fine law enforcement officers out there. They have a dangerous job and take risks on a daily basis. We need to come together as a community, working with law enforcement to ensure that everyone is protected and that the taking of a human life is weighed with compassion and judiciousness.
