Paige letter: Postal Service

The United States Postal Service Financial Report from Oct. 1, 2014, to Sept. 30, 2015, is positive, showing a $1.2 billion annual operating profit using postage instead of tax dollars for revenue while employing many veterans.

Why reduce service when there is a positive trend for the future by selling postage that has resulted in a $2.6 billion operational profit the last two years? This shows an operational profit, in the black, for the third straight year.

With an improving economy and Internet sales, the package revenue has increased to 11.4 percent over last year.

With the upcoming holidays, the projection is for 15.5 billion cards, letters and packages to be delivered from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve, which includes a record 600 million packages.

Please mail your valued items early this year to make sure they will be delivered in time for the holidays. We value you as customers.

Thank you for your support and have a safe and enjoyable holiday aeason.

John Paige, president, Idaho State Association of Letter Carriers, Pocatello
