Langland letter: Why I vote
The reason I vote is because I am given a choice. Without a choice we could easily be stuck with a dictatorship, a power in which a person or persons can impose his/her will on the people. There will always be people who want and love to have power over other people. By having a choice, candidates need to compete with other individuals for a role of leadership. The 11 candidates who are vying for the presidency points out the large number of people who want to be in charge of our citizenry. And issues that would impose taxes on the people could be decided by the people.
We have evidence of the evil that a lack of choice can be imposed on the people when we read about the horrors that are occurring in Syria, where a figure is in a position of power and a huge number of people leave that country to hopefully, as refugees, to be taken in by countries where more sanity prevails. The Syrian dictator imposed violence on the people who had no choice.
