Hickerson letter: Thanksgiving
Regarding your Nov. 6 invitation to readers, asking their thoughts on “Whether the Christmas/Holiday Season starts too early these days?”
I’d like to see our commercial Christmas season start Dec. 1, not the day of or day after one of our most beautiful American holidays, called Thanksgiving. Commercially, Christmas is so early that it’s basically a “buying frenzy.”
Let’s savor the theme of Thanksgiving through the last day of November. That multitheme is rich:
▪ Mother Nature has provided us with food for another year ... the beauty of harvest.
▪ Thankfulness is the basis of the human spirit, despite difficulties.
▪ Our nation’s history, that white man was immigrant to the indigenous settled and rich cultures.
▪ Family time without all the commercial gift-giving hoopla ... a dinner shared/eaten together.
Thank you, Idaho Statesman, for asking readers about this important question.
