Castle letter: Drivers beware

On a recent trip to California, I was pulled over just west of Lovelock by a Nevada Highway Patrol officer for failing the “move over law.” The officer was pulled over on the shoulder with his lights flashing giving another motorist a ticket. As I failed to move over, he followed me and pulled me over. I had no idea that it was a law requiring that you move over to the next lane, if safe to do so. Normally, the officer said the fine is $470, but because I had a good driving record, he reduced it to $115. So, after court fees and online traffic school, it added up to $167.95. Beware and make sure to pay attention to the “move over law.”
