LaWall letter: Same-sex couples

As a minister and person of faith, I am heartbroken at the recent LDS position to refuse sacraments and blessings to children of same-sex couples. I cannot imagine the turmoil and sorrow some families must be experiencing. This position is antithetical to the principles of my faith, which affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person, which includes LGBTQ people and their children. I want people to know these positions are not representative of all organized religion. As Unitarian Universalists, we welcome LGBTQ people with radical love and hospitality. We will bless you and your children, we will officiate your weddings, we will march with you in solidarity and walk with you on your spiritual journey. We will hold your hand and sing with you. We will pray with you. You are welcome among us.

Our congregations engage in intentional LGBTQ welcoming ministry. We have a proud history of living our values by standing on the side of love for marriage equality and advocating for rights and justice for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
