Jung letter: Amtrak service

We need to restore Amtrak service in Boise. I’d ask those in charge to please create a once/twice a week Amtrak stop in Boise. It would be wonderful to take Amtrak to Portland, Seattle or other points for shopping, holidays, visiting families/friends.

My father retired with Union Pacific Railroad years ago. During my business school years 1959-1960, I rode the train route from Boise to Hinkle, Ore.

Years later I married and lived in Hawaii. When coming to the mainland to visit parents in Hermiston (Hinkle), we flew into Portland just to take the train for the fabulous Columbia River Gorge, incredible relaxation, joy of riding the train. Moved to Boise area in 2005. Our greatest disappointment: No more Amtrak stopping here.

The magnificent Boise train station has been beautifully preserved, just waiting for train lovers again. There must be a way to bring back Amtrak to Boise since the population in Idaho has grown considerably. Utilize volunteers to maintain the station and grounds? What can we do to bring back the train?
