I would like to personally thank the citizens who supported the vision for new libraries in our community during the recent general election — 12,709 residents voted in the election, with the majority voting in support (59 percent). To the small group that self-mobilized to form the Vote Yes committee, I would like to say a special thanks. Citizens Becky McKinstry, Cassandra Groll, Nancy Rountree, Lisa Zeiter, Alana Chapman, Tory Henderson, Megan Larsen, Joe Kozlowski, Joe Borton and Kodie Davis all took their passion for libraries and learning and translated it into a grass-roots group that wrote letters, canvassed, managed social media and so much more. Thanks also to Mayor Tammy de Weerd, the Meridian Chamber of Commerce and the City Council members and candidates who showed their support for the measure. The Meridian Library Board of Trustees will meet to discuss election results and next steps to tackle our limited space challenges at the regularly scheduled board meeting on Nov. 18, 7 p.m., at the Cherry Lane location.
