Schlicht letter: Medicaid gap
The story about the death of Jenny Steinke puts a human face on the impact of the policies of Butch Otter and the Republican Party. There were two legislative sessions during which it would have been possible to expand Medicaid coverage in Idaho, but mindless decision making based on an entrenched animosity toward any program offered by the federal government means that the Steinke family and many others in Idaho cannot receive basic and necessary health care. This is a heartbreaking and completely preventable death for which the Idaho Republican Party bears full moral responsibility.
