Ravmes letter: Mass shootings

How do we solve gun control? Do we pass more laws restricting guns? Do we attempt to take away everyone’s guns? That would be impossible because of our country’s population. The Second Amendment states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Isn’t this referring to the Militia having the right to bear arms?

Many have complained that Obama had brought gun control to our attention when he gave a speech in regards to the Oregon shooting, but he hasn’t proposed a plan to prevent more shootings from happening in the future. Society today blames these school shootings on guns and mental illness. Could it be that these shootings are happening because of moral duplicity? The youth of this country needs more moral consistency.

The youth are lashing out because they are angry about something, but the media has not yet asked what is causing this anger. Anyone can be pushed to a breaking point regardless of gun control. Yes, guns and mental illness are attributes of shootings but there must be a bigger picture we need to look at.
