Alleged animal neglect adds to case for giving up dairy | Opinion

A goat at Grand Barr Dairy in Nyssa, Oregon, grazes with an open abscess on its cheek. PETA investigators said the abscesses were likely from caseous lymphadenitis, a highly contagious bacterial infection that causes abscesses in the lymph nodes. One goat from the dairy tested positive for the infection, according to vet records.

Dairy is inhumane

Even if the goats at Grand Barr Dairy — where many goats were emaciated, had overgrown hooves and/or open abscesses — were not neglected, humans shouldn’t drink goat’s milk (‘‘’Misery’ and ‘filth’: PETA investigation alleges neglect at goat dairy near Boise,” Dec. 23). Like cows, goats, social animals who wag their tails like dogs and form strong bonds with one another, produce milk for their own babies. But the dairy industry tears families apart, separating mothers and their young. Goats used for milk are slaughtered when they’re no longer profitable, and male goats are killed because they don’t produce milk. Instead of goat’s milk, try oat, nut or soy milk, as well as other vegan foods. See PETA.org for more information and product suggestions.

Why rename buildings?

Trumps penchant for big gaudy architecture takes after his soul mate Adolf Hitler. Hitler loved Roman classical architecture and planned huge building projects in Germany’s capital, Berlin. Hitler wanted his structures to be bigger and more grandiose than any others in the world. The new “Germania” included a grand domed hall and a colossal triumphal arch. Does this sound familiar? Trump wants to turn Washington into his own Germania. The underlying ideology for these projects is power and control, imperial legacy and racial purity. This is what America voted for, a strong leader that gets things done.

He has made America so great we are entering a gilded age of Trumpian utopia. Let’s show our appreciation for our Fuhrer Trump by re-naming the White House the Trump House. Let’s also change our capitals name from Washington to Trumpington. Every U.S. government building in the world needs to have the Trump logo and his photo lined in glittering gold showcased. Fitting gifts for our savior and greatest president and the greatest and most powerful leader that has ever graced this earth!

Might as well give Alaska back

So. If Trump sees no problem for Ukraine to cede territory to Russia to bring “peace”, then I see no reason why the Untied States shouldn’t cede Alaska to Russia as well. Or the Louisiana Purchase back to France. Nor Texas and the southwestern United States to Spain/Mexico.

Trump is so enamored by Putin’s power he can’t see Hitler in Poland. Putin only has one objective in his warped mind: restore the Soviet Union.

Trump only sees “The Art of the Deal.” He has no clue as to diplomacy. “You’re Fired” is his mantra. Luxury is his guiding light. Power and absolute power his goal. Corruption and absolute corruption is his bible. Trump is preparing Washington, D.C., and all of its environs to be Mar-a-Lago, to be Trumpville USA. Gilded, golden, marbled, ballroom glorified.

Trump sycophants are in every cabinet post. And here is the final thought: unvaccinated U.S. soldiers will be sent into all places and all situations, among the nations unable, unwilling, or unstable to be medically “safe.” Slaughtered not by bullets. But by disease.

Health cuts have consequences

Most of us are aware of the unfortunate who cannot afford health care. Many of them are deathly ill and some are dying. And most of us are also aware of those in our government who couldn’t care less for the unfortunate.

Save school grants

The federal Department of Education has announced it will cancel the Full Service Community Schools (FSCS) grant, which provides critical educational and other support for families in need, in Idaho and across the country. People do not freely choose to become less fortunate. It is a fate that befalls them out of circumstances beyond their control. They are our friends and neighbors, and the least we can do is support funding that helps them manage the difficult challenges they face every day. In their place, we would be grateful for the kinds of help the FSCS grant provides. I’ve written to both senators and both congressmen to urge them to intervene, If we care about our neighbors, we all should do that. ‘Tis the season to be kind and caring. Let us join together in support of our less fortunate neighbors.
