Letters: Dorothy Moon knows what she’s doing, and it’s vile, hateful and unethical
As an Idaho citizen, Dorothy Moon is welcome to have an opinion about events and people she disagrees with; however, using the Idaho Republican Party database to promote Moon’s vile propaganda and personal hate toward people in our community is reprehensible.
If Moon believes a crime is being committed, I suggest she call the Boise Police Department and allow the proper authorities to investigate and protect our community. Otherwise, she should return to her cave, where she recently denigrated women by supporting a convicted sexual offender. Leave the good law-abiding citizens of Boise alone.
The Republican Party is not the personal property of Moon lent to impose radical distortions of the truth in an attempt to incite hatred, violence, and division. Instead, the party should consider the negative impact on our community from reactionary, targeted hateful fabrications and reevaluate the GOP’s primary purpose.

Former deputy AG for Arkoosh
This year we will elect a new attorney general. Prior to my retirement, I served as a Deputy Attorney General and I know how the office must work if it is to serve Idaho citizens. Both the Republicans and the Democrats I worked with had great integrity and shared one critical trait: they did not play political games with taxpayer money.
The AG’s office must not favor political friends. Whether the Attorney General is reviewing the award of a state contract, evaluating a tax case, giving honest advice to the legislature, or deciding what cases to file, it is simply unacceptable to make decisions based upon what your political buddies tell you in a back room. Sadly, Raul Labrador has repeatedly pledged to run the office politically. No wonder that prior Republican attorneys general refused to support him in the primary election.
Fortunately, Tom Arkoosh has agreed to seek the office. He is not a career politician and has pledged to run the office in a non-partisan manner. I know Tom Arkoosh to be an attorney of the highest integrity and ability. If elected he will serve us with honor and distinction and without political favoritism.

Boise off the rails
Dear Boise, Did you just allow your mayor to cancel a conservative gathering in a park and at the same time let her okay a festival to be held in a park that is featuring a “Drag Queen” stage for 11-18 year-olds? Last time I checked, 11-18 year-olds were children. Is this what Boise wants for their community?

Farewell to the Queen
I was aware of the state of the Queen this morning via the news. Then I was made aware of the passing by a family member whilst at work. I just find it odd that we are so divided, so distracted and self-absorbed that today, this will be a footnote. When in reality we should all pause and mourn the passing of such an important world figure. Sitting here in the medical field, everything is upside down, we are so busy. But yet, if this were the 60s? The 80s? Maybe even early 2000s, we would stop and reflect. I’m sure it will be all over the news and people will talk but just by observing... none of us are really taking a “pause”. What a world we have now. Bless her on her new journey, I am glad she no longer has to deal with this drama of a reality. Foolish hurtful grandson, world upside down, wars and rumors of wars... Bless her. May we all join her at some point.

Rail makes Lower Snake River Dams redundant
Sen. Murray and Gov. Inslee’s “Lower Snake River Dams Benefit Replacement Report” is amazingly detailed and documented. The Navigation and Transportation Section illustrates “that replacing the benefits provided by the LSRD is possible with the appropriate level of investment.”
Replacing navigation with rail offers the best solution. Rail upgrades can begin sooner than later.
“Rail reinvestment improves speed and reliability of service, takes trucks off the road, saves taxpayers money, and provides a more efficient transportation network overall.” — Solutionary Rail.
Railroads run on clean renewable electricity in much of the world. Propelling trains with renewable power addresses one of the greatest challenges in reducing carbon emissions by replacing petroleum-based liquid fuels.
Regenerative locomotive braking — found in all-electric cars — has applicability in the lower Snake agriculture corridor. An example, a 100-car grain train could travel empty from Lewiston to the Camas Prairie and return loaded generating three times the energy it took to get there.
The Benefits Replacement Report recognizes increased maintenance costs of state and local roadways in southeast Washington and north Idaho if additional heavy trucks are needed to move commodities. Replacing loaded grain tucks with rail cars is the soundest solution.
