Letters to the editor: Trump, Midas Gold, Democrats
Donald Trump
In response to Barry Goff’s letter about Trump — tax cuts for the very wealthy, who did not need them in the first place; sucking up to a North Korea leader who is responsible for thousands of his countrymen dying of starvation and murder if they do not agree with him; the state of immigration causing the country to be no longer one of compassion. ISIS/MS13 were here before, during and will be here long after Trump. Most countries are up in arms over his trade decisions, stopping the Iran deal is iffy at best. Unemployment rates were already going down. On the “up” economy it is a good move, but the gap between those who are struggling and who are comfortable is as wide as ever.
As an 80-year-old who lives off Medicare and Social Security, my net is minus $10.70 per month. How many $10.70 cuts can my income take?
If Goff wants a crass, crude, name-calling leader who sides with dictators like those of North Korea and Russia, then Trump is your man.

Midas Gold
I want to take a moment to express our support as a company doing business in Idaho and my support personally for the mining operations of Midas Gold in the Stibnite-Yellow Pine District in Valley County. We toured the site and they appear to be conscious about the work they are doing, with respect for the environment and community in which they operate.
They are providing revenue for the area by employing people and purchasing products from local companies, all of which is a great support for our state.
I have observed what benefits mining is for an area and instead of making those areas environmental disasters, they are actually cleaning up years of bad practices exhibited when our environmental constraints were not followed. By having these operations active they better manage waste generated from decades of mining and take an active role in being the answer, not the problem.
In conclusion we welcome Midas Gold to the area and hope that they are supported by our state to be encouraged to bring jobs and much-needed money to our state.

Democrats
The midterm elections are right around the corner. Are you a senior citizen who collects a Social Security check every month? Social Security is a program begun by the Democratic Party. Do you receive Medicare? Medicare is a program begun by the Democratic Party. Have you joined an insurance program because you had previously been denied health coverage due to a pre-existing condition or because it is cheaper than another plan? The Affordable Care Act was begun by Obama and the Democratic Party. Do your children or grandchildren participate in Head Start? This is a program that was begun by the Democratic Party. To add to the list of programs or bills sponsored by the Democratic Party: the Peace Corps, the Civil Rights Act, and the minimum wage standard. The Democratic Party is the party of the people. The Democratic Party is also the party of fiscal responsibility. The national debt has decreased in the past 40 years only under the leadership of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, both Democrats. We are having a time of prosperity that was brought about by the Obama administration. This November, vote Democrat for all candidates – you are voting for your own best interests.
