Letters to the editor: Rebuttal, Trump, GOP, 2nd Amendment rally, housing, library
Rebuttal to letters
Two letters in the Sept. 5 paper cry out for rebuttal. First, Boise’s resident climate change denier, Joe Dewey, claims that “over 500 acts of violence against Trump supporters have occurred since the election.” Dewey gives absolutely no proof for these attacks, he just throws them out there and expects us to believe them. I suspect Dewey gets his figures from the drug-addled Limbaugh or the crazy Sean Hannity. One only has to look at the rabid Trump supporters at recent Trump rallies as they hurl obscenities and death threats at journalists after being whipped into a frenzy by Dewey’s hero, the trainwreck aka, Donald Trump, to have an idea of the real nuts. Spare me the drivel about your “Democratic friends,” Joe. I doubt you have any.
Next, Jacob Franzen insults NFL players for protesting the killing of unarmed black men by police. It’s ironic that right-wingers like Franzen profess love for the Constitution until, that is, someone actually exercises one’s rights under it. Franzen goes on to make an incredibly ignorant claim that NFL players don’t spend their money on the poor. Colin Kaepernick has, for your information, Mr. Franzen, spent over half of the money he’s made from football on inner-city youth. Sir, your ignorance is appalling.

Would Trump flip?
Would our president “flip”?
If the situation were reversed, with Trump under indictment, would he flip and testify against Cohen? Of course he would.
He has already flipped his position on many of his “supporters” more times than the wind can change direction.
I believe our president has completely lost what little integrity he may have had.

Supporting Trump
Thanks for the ray of sunshine and fresh breath of air in your Sept. 5th edition of the editorial page. Real gratifying to see the comments from the “other side.” The side that shows there are patriotic Americans who fully support the office of the president of our United States of America.
Thank you and God bless you (yes God).

Vote GOP out
At her father’s funeral, Meghan McCain spoke the words that will likely become the battlecry against the evil that is Trumpism: “The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because America was always great.”
When Trump speaks of making America great again he means “great” again for his racist white nationalist base and for his billionaire buddies.
How can the party of military people such as Grant, Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Goldwater and McCain have sunk so low as to be led by a draft-dodger like Donald Trump with his vanishing bone spurs?
The November election is the last chance to cure the law-defying, corrupt disease of Trumpism. If the pusillanimous Republicans retain control of Congress then Putin wins and we all lose.
Vote in November as if the nation depends on it — because it does.

Second Amendment rally
I was dismayed to see that you chose to put the Second Amendment rally on the front page twice without any balancing information or opinions. Those 1,000 people, many of whom weren’t even from Idaho according to the article, don’t deserve that much attention. I am so tired of issues being presented as black and white when there are so many thoughtful opinions and ideas in between. A false dichotomy is created that makes people so fearful of each other. Rational people realize that guns and regulation can co-exist. Many people in Idaho and elsewhere who favor some gun regulations do not want to take away guns or change the Second Amendment, and we can enact common sense laws that will make mass shootings less likely. The Red Flag laws that Greg Pruett railed against are very practical and reasonable. They would temporarily, with due process and protections, take guns away from violent, dangerous people to protect the public. It’s a public safety issue now. Please consider doing a longer, more balanced article to better inform Idahoans about this issue.

Trump’s legacy
Donald Trump keeps taking credit for what President Obama accomplished in 2015-2016. Every other good thing President Obama did, Trump has spent his time in the White House getting rid of. Even if it meant it made our air worse to breathe.
People, if you want an entertainer send Trump down the road to entertain and let’s get a president and some people in our House and Senate that will intelligently work together to run our country.
If yo don’t vote in this election you could be to blame for our country losing everything we have gained over the years. All of the people that have backed us for years will not be there anymore. No more allies.

Affordable housing
To the congregation at Cathedral of the Rockies — You need to go back to church and review Christian dogma. I’m pretty sure Jesus did not say “Love thy neighbor unless it lowers your property value or they have loud children.” If affordable housing does not belong in your neighborhood, then where? The neighborhood is a perfect place for families needing affordable housing, having access to needed public transportation as well as being within walking distance to a grocery store, pharmacy and medical/dental services. What Would Jesus Do?

New library building
We are Les Bois, the City of Trees. It would be awesome to see the new library along the gateway to the city made from Idaho trees, a mass timber building. The University of Idaho’s new modern ICCU basketball arena and a stunning new library in Washington, D.C., will be mass timber buildings. Why not here? A mass timber library would allow Boise to highlight a locally grown sustainable building product that contributes to the economic vitality of rural Idaho. A mass timber library would also complement the historical Cabin building on the site and the trees along the river rather than the current proposal.
