Blinn letter: Children’s well-being

I recently read an article in the Idaho Statesman by Lisa Banos of The Washington Post titled “Why do male exhibitionists force women to watch them?”

The article quoted Dr. Alexandra Katehakis as saying, “The man who is drawn to this type of exhibitionistic behavior is often someone who grew up with a mother who was not attentive, leaving the child feeling angry, hurt or invalidated.” I get weary of hearing again and again how it’s the mothers who harm their child’s well-being. I would think whoever is the child’s primary caregiver, be it a father, aunt, uncle, grandparent or live-in nanny, could do the same kind of damage to a child’s mental health.
