When you step back and take a look at what the Russian social media trolls wanted to achieve, it’s clear that they wanted to divide Americans. Do you think they are high-fiving each other right now? Many of us appear to trust divisive “news” on the Web more than we trust each other. That needs to change and it has to start with us.
If you hold a different point of view or worship differently than me or look different from me, I am going to strive to understand your point of view better. While I might still seethe at some of the more judgmental or hateful attitudes, I am going to try and give you the benefit of the doubt. You are also an American and I will remind myself that you are as patriotic as I am and only wish the best for the United States.
I will save my disdain and mistrust for Russians and what they wish to do to my country. They have done far too much damage already. The solution is difficult but we need to come together and talk and listen to each other respectfully. Will you join me in this effort?
