When I first heard the city of Boise wanted to build a stadium downtown for the Boise Hawks and a potential USL team, my heart raced with excitement. I am the fan that wakes up at 5 a.m. to watch games, decked myself out in red, white and blue, and marched with 45,000 U.S. fans to the Women’s World Cup final in Vancouver, and cheered on Athletic Bilbao and Club Tijuana along with 23,000 fans at the Basque Soccer Friendly at BSU. To put it mildly I have waited a long time for this moment.
But passion is not the only reason why I am supporting the Boise Sports Park. The majority of downtown Boise is seeing increased property values and investment, bringing with it additional tax dollars and jobs. Comparatively, this area’s growth is anemic. The investment of $3 million in city funds could result in more than $60 million in investment, 1,240 full time jobs, $802 million in new payroll, and $1.8 billion in total economic output, an incredible ROI that will reap rewards for generations. Investment in downtown is vital to Boise’s future and I hope you will join me in supporting this fantastic opportunity.
