Bastian letter: Lying and dishonesty

The damning sin of the ages is a lying tongue. “Six things doth the Lord hate — a proud look, a lying tongue … .” “They draw near unto me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” “Thou shalt not steal or bear false witness against thy neighbor.”

Our current political system involves lying, bearing false witness, deception, fraud, etc. The question isn’t who is honest, but who is most honest? Or who got caught or had the best legal counsel?

Currently, Washington is frequently referred to as the swamp because of all the corruption, dishonestly and deception that goes on. Some have promised to drain the swamp of all this corruption, dishonesty and deception, but it seems to be a false hope because both political parties lack clean hands and pure hearts.

What we desperately need on all fronts is honesty in our business dealings, board rooms and especially in Washington D.C. We need men and women who stand for honesty, integrity and virtue. “On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country.”

The clarion call for our day is for leaders who are willing to take the moral high ground.
