I wanted to give a “shout out” and thank you to Bart Hendricks and the Varsity B Club at BSU. Recently they hosted all track and field athletes from the past with most of them from the Coach Ed Jacoby era.
Ed came to Boise in the fall of 1973, ready to jump-start the XC and track programs. He brought his enthusiasm, passion and his order for the sport, and as the years flowed by, Jacoby’s athletes excelled on so many levels. It was wonderful to see coach and his wife again, and share stories from the past.
I was a 19-year-old sophomore at Boise State College, and during that summer of 1973, I was ready to go elsewhere to further my schooling and distance running career. Ed talked me out of leaving and said that I needed to stay to become part of something special that he was going to bring to the college. And boy, did he ever deliver.
My teammates remain some of my special friends to this day and it was magical to see them over the weekend. So thank you, BSU, for helping to keep those of us still connected to the university in your planning and memories. We certainly honor and cherish the time we had competing for the Blue and Orange. Go Broncos.
