Mosell letter: Labrador, DACA
I recently called the office of Raul Labrador to ask about the representative’s stance on DACA. It seemed to me that a man who spent much of his career as an immigration lawyer would have some valuable insight into the complexities of the legislation and alternatives. Instead, what I was given by his office was a dry reading of the previously released press statement and a series of apologies. His position was in firm defense of the president and the threatened deportation of Dreamers, but it lacked any supporting evidence or arguments; a strategic soundbite. Idaho deserves better from its public officials than shallow posturing and scripted replies. With the upcoming submission of the Tillis-Lankford bill it seems likely that Rep. Labrador will modify his position, but why? Has he secretly harbored a desire to find comprehensive compromise or is he just following the herd?
