Heiden letter: College counselors
I would like to thank the person who made it possible for the schools to have a college counselor added to schools. The Rocky Mountain High School college counselor was priceless during the most stressful time of high school. She kept us up-to-date on deadlines, informed us of new scholarships in the area and bent over backward to help us.
When you are a working parent, it’s hard to meet all the deadlines of the senior year and college deadlines. If it were not for the college counselor at Rocky, we would have chosen a different college than Boise State. She made it possible.
I really hope they expand the college program to start with kids the freshman year and follow them throughout high school. I had to teach myself everything the hard way and attend endless meetings about college entrance to understand the criteria, how to get into various colleges, what they were looking for, and on and on. Between the classes off campus to get specialty classes, online IDLA, the college counselors and more female teams to join, this is an amazing education system in Idaho to help kids get into college.
