Tanton letter: ACHD and snow removal
Snow coming. ACHD has new plows for their smaller trucks, so they can get into subdivisions and side streets — I can see it now. What are they going to do with the snow? It will be pushed up against any car in the street, over sidewalks and plugging up your driveways. It is illegal for us to shovel snow back into the street, also illegal for us to block walkways or driveways when moving snow. Where the ACHD is allowed to push heavy wet snow with their big trucks up against our cars, over curbs, onto sidewalks plugging up driveways and leaving it for the people to deal with with their little shovels and snow throwers. When I first came to Boise in the ’70s ACHD would plow the snow to the center of the road then come back and remove it later. Now they plow it up against your car, the curb/sidewalk and block driveways. How is this legal or fair to the people that pay their salary? Do you think there is going to be more sidewalk cleaning or code enforcement of sidewalks being kept clear or even by the city and their responsibilities? Not.
