Weihing letter: Utah Burn Center nurse

Regarding the story about Alex Wubbels, the University of Utah Hospital Burn Center nurse who refused to let a police officer illegally draw a patient blood sample:

Wubbels showed concern and respect for the rights of the patient she was taking care of. The Salt Lake Police Department showed that they act above the law, abuse their authority, and may be covering up this culture of abuse.

Alex Wubbels was a nurse at the Utah Burn Center when I was admitted there Christmas Eve, 2012, with severe leg burns. When I first woke up, I found that my phone in the room wasn’t working, so she actually wheeled my bed out of the room to use another phone so I could call my concerned family and friends.

She also, during the night shift, would come into my room, and insist that to save my leg, I needed to get up and walk even though I was in pain and extremely tired. I will always be appreciative of her professionalism and concern for me as a patient that allowed me to save my leg so I can raft, ski, and hike.
