Lilley letter: Confederate monuments

I don’t understand how anyone can defend the Confederate States of America, if they had won the war they would have torn this country apart. The USA wouldn’t be the strong and powerful nation it is today. We wouldn’t have been strong enough to help out in World War I or World War II, with dire consequences. And as far as the recent writer goes, who compared the Statue of Liberty to a Confederate Monument, the two have nothing in common. One is a welcoming sign, the other not so much. Ever wonder how a black family explains Civil War monuments to their kids. “This monument commemorates a war that would have destroyed the country and among other things, kept our people enslaved.” C’mon, no family should deal with such a thing.
