Woodard letter: Moral standards

For the older generation of Americans, we watch with great concern the decline of our moral and national standards. Today some are promoting sexual lifestyle, drug use, foul language, etc. never dreamed of just 50 years ago. Our Christian moral standard has been set aside, even in some churches.

It now falls to our younger generation to recover the moral values that made our country great. I am reminded of the comments made by President Eisenhower when he signed the legislation to put “under God” in our Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag in 1954.

“From this day forward, the millions of our schoolchildren will daily proclaim in every city and town, every village and rural school house, the dedication of our nation and people to the Almighty. To anyone who truly loves America, nothing could be more inspiring than to contemplate this rededication of our youth on each school morning, to our country’s true meaning ... religious faith in America’s heritage and future.”
