Lorentz letter: Health care
The Senate’s health care “skinny repeal” was the most unpopular bill in 30 years, with only 12-27 percent public support. This bill would have increased costs, decreased coverage and at the same time gutted Medicaid, which is the country’s largest health insurance provider . This so-called health care bill, if it had passed, would have handed over $400 billion in tax breaks to the wealthy and health care corporations while simultaneously kicking over 20 million people off of their health care nationwide. This bill would have been devastatingly cruel to many in Idaho and the nation. Only three Republican senators had the courage and integrity to vote no on this bill. So why would Crapo and Risch vote for a bill that would purposely inflict harm and hardship on their constituents? The obvious answer is they were more concerned with providing massive tax breaks for the rich and the corporations they actually represent, than protecting the people they were elected to represent. They also assume we are not paying attention and that as long as they have an R next to their name they will get re-elected. Is this the type of representation that you voted for?
