Taylor letter: IPC hiring process
I am writing to provide feedback on the Idaho State Personnel Commission hiring practices. I have recent experience about which I am writing, but this recent experience is part of a very long trend of IPC hiring practices of which I am aware. The IPC hiring process takes a ridiculous amount of time, which leads many applicants to the conclusion “why bother to apply.” I have heard this repeated over and over again from individuals who didn’t bother to apply because of the extremely lengthy process. The IPC “online system” is uninformative, deliberately confusing, and incorrect. The IPC interview process is misleading. In many instances, the IPC hires someone from within, and the IPC already knows who they want to hire, the agency just has to go through the steps because the “law” requires it. The IPC provides no feedback to individuals who have made an enormous investment of time and energy to apply, and who are unceremoniously dumped on their rear ends with no follow up information, whatsoever. They are not even provided the courtesy of a call that tells them they were not selected. Please consider outsourcing the IPC hiring process to the private sector.
