Herrick letter: Sequoia tree move
In your article about moving the sequoia tree it was stated the workers would work on leveling the tree. I believe the correct term would be plumbing the tree. The definition of level is “a horizontal plane or line with respect to the distance above or below a given point.” Plum is defined “as a test (upright surface) to determine the vertical.
