Hawkins letter: The mayor and F-35s
In reading the editorial in the June 15 Statesman concerning the compost bins, it seems that our mayor and City Council have a habit of trying to shove their ideas down the throats of Boise citizens without considering all the issues and consequences.
The F-35 issue is another example. I wrote a letter some time ago to Mayor Bieter expressing my concern because my home will be highly affected by the extremely loud F-35 on takeoff. Mayor Bieter wrote to me expressing that he and our Congressional delegation along with the Chamber of Commerce, many community members and many business leaders are in favor of bringing in the F-35s to Gowen Field. So I guess the numerous homes that will be very negatively affected from the standpoint of livability and value should gladly sacrifice. While the city does not make the final decision on the F-35s, they are certainly influencers. My impression is that the mayor is orchestrating this issue in favor of the F-35s and if those that are directly affected don’t like it, too bad. Government knows what is good for us.
