Numbers letter: Donald Trump
With Trump’s recent imperial pronouncement that the United States would refuse to remain a part of the Paris Climate Accord, it appears that Idaho, the United States and the entire world are now being held hostage by a handful of coal miners and a morally bankrupt and criminally inept president. A president who will say and do anything to court the votes of his so-called “base.” This emerging hostage situation is also thanks to the glaringly spineless and ineffectual Republican Congress whose latest motto apparently is “Whatever Trump wants, Trump gets” — even as he drags our country ever deeper into the abyss of autocratic tyranny and a corrupt kleptocracy that our country’s founders adamantly warned us against. Only five months into Trump’s so-called “presidency,” it is painfully clear that our internationally embarrassing debacle is not about Trump’s constantly shifting political pronouncements but about his own competency and his actual mental capability, and stamina, to carry out the immensely demanding duties of the president of the United States. I know our country can do better — we are so much better than this.
